Hello, my name is Jo Scordellis and I am a Community Governor at Long Field Academy. I joined the Governing Body because I live locally to the school and I wanted to offer support to the school in providing an excellent educational experience.
As well as my Governor role I work in the NHS as a Doctor in Clinical Psychology. This involves therapeutic work but also working as a clinical and research supervisor to qualified staff and trainees, being a visiting lecturer at Leicester University and working within a consultancy capacity to staff teams to improve mental health care provision.
My experience as a Psychologist, particularly with younger adults, has helped me to understand the importance for all of us of our school experiences. This includes the enabling of optimum academic and vocational achievements, but also involves us developing a sense of belonging, achievement, emotional resilience and learning compassion and responsibility for ourselves and others. The importance of young people’s well-being in relation to mental health is increasingly being recognised at a national level and I aim to support the school in its role with this as part of my governing role.
I sit on the curriculum and pastoral committee and as a community governor I’m also conscious of supporting the school in maintaining and strengthening ties and relationships with the local community as this is beneficial for all.
