Hello, My name is Anthony Tompkins and I am the Chair of the Quality Standards Teaching & Learning and Safeguarding (QSTLS) Committee.
I was elected to the previous Governing Body in June 2013, and reappointed as a Parent Governor when Long Field Academy joined The Spencer Academies Trust in June 2015. Having two sons at Long Field, I have a vested interest in the the Academy, and try to contribute where I can to its ongoing success.
I am a Mathematics and Computing teacher by profession, with over 20 years classroom experience. I have a keen interest in educational technology and held a number of middle and senior leadership roles within a variety of schools, and am currently part of the leadership team of a large 11-19 comprehensive school and sixth form college in Leicester. I aim to bring this experience to bear in my role of Chair of QSTLS and as the Link Governor for Long Field Academy Mathematics Department.
As a foster carer for Leicestershire County Council, I have had contact with many different schools across the county whilst advocating for the children in my care, and I know from first hand experience how Long Field’s small size and inclusive nature makes a real difference to the outcomes of its students. The school has a real community feel where all students are supported and encouraged to take a leadership role or position of responsibility.
During this last 5 years, I have witnesses a real transformation at Long Field Academy to a school in which we can all feel justly proud.
